The Great Etaing Marsh is definitive proof that an agricultural area relatively low in biodiversity can be restored to humid grassland, naturally recolonised by protected plant species! This restoration has been made possible thanks to extensive grazing of Highland cows (a rustic Scottish breed) and Belgian red cattle (local breeds). The old white willows, pollarded to create refuges for animals like the little owl, are also well worth admiring. Today, this site is home to 29 species of dragonflies – or 50% of the region's odonata species.
