Located near the town of Arras, the Maroeuil Forest has not always looked the way it does today. During the First World War, the site was almost razed by the Allies for trench shoring during the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

The woods were then mined for Ostricourt sandstone. The traces of this mining operation (pits) are still visible on the north-eastern part of the woodlands. This explains the youth of the current trees, partly due to post-war replanting.

The site, partially accessible for persons with reduced mobility, is the perfect place to discover the life of the forest. You might even catch a glimpse of a squirrel or a roe deer passing by on your way …
