The Réserve Naturelle Nationale des Étangs du Romelaëre is the natural jewel of the Audomarois marshlands, with over 100 hectares of protected nature in the heart of France's largest cultivated marshland.

Description

The Blongios trail starts at the Grange Nature and runs for 2.8 km through the reserve. This wooden pathway on stilts (decking) allows you to explore the marsh in the dry, on foot or in a wheelchair, and discover the local flora and fauna.

At the end of the path, the ornithological observatory offers a unique view of the colony of birds nesting nearby. Egrets, ox-guard herons and cormorants are very much in evidence. The reed beds are also home to many species of birds, including blue-throats and phragmites.

Spring is the best time to hear them sing and watch them parade atop the reeds.
